Every time you take your knife or brass brush to the tip of the gun, you are wearing down the air cap. A worn air cap can allow for air to leak by causing un-needed force on your patterns, allowing them to become distorted. It also gives the over spray nice grooves to collect in, causing excess build up on your tip, in a very short time!
